Google Mobile lets you Follow the Election on your Phone

Wannabe political pundits and news junkies now have another resource to track the 2008 Presidential Election.  Google Mobile this past weekend dedicated a mobile coverage site that allows users to keep up with his or her favorite candidate.

The site has several very cool, yet very practical mobile features, including:

  • Mobile Search — links for the candidates so users don’t have to type in their names.
  • Mobile News — points users to latest headlines about each candidate.
  • Mobile Reader — follows latest readings of the presidential candidates.
  • Mobile YouTube — links to latest videos, press conferences, etc.
  • Mobile Maps — points users to the location of venues for both conventions.

My favorite feature is the Mobile Reader link and not so much because of the two parties involved, but because it provides users with a window into their personal lives.  I would’ve liked to have seen an iTunes feature here as well, so users could listen their favorite candidates play lists.

Trade Show Implications
The number of companies employing mobile marketing strategies has rapidly become the trend, as the number of mobile users continues to rise in the United States. And research has shown that users want practical content, which is what makes Google Mobile’s new elections site a great model for similar applications, such as launching a new product or service.

In effect trade show attendees could, with the use of their phone, follow links to the latest news about your products or services, watch your latest viral campaign on YouTube, and then follow a map pointing to your booth on the show floor.

Most of these applications would need to be tailored to fit your needs of course, but it would go along way towards integrating your marketing efforts around a specific trade show or product release.

Are you already considering similar mobile marketing strategies for your next show?  Tell me about it by posting about it in our Ask an Expert form, and then I will respond in my next blog.
