From Time Magazine: How One Giant Casino Could Turn Around Vegas

Yesterday Time.com reported on the anticipation of MGM-Mirage’s opening of its mega $8.5-million casino complex, CityCenter, and hopes that it can it provide the kick start needed to turn Vegas around.  On Monday, Sep. 21, CityCenter began the task of filling 12,000 jobs — much needed work for Vegas, which has an unemployment rate of 13.2%.  The company said that it has fielded 160,000 applicants since posting the positions.  Scheduled to open in December, CityCenter’s feature tower will offer more than 4,000 bedrooms and casino gaming.

Will CityCenter help Vegas regain its luster?  Maybe not right away, but many feel that SinCity will regain its form.  In a previously-written article in Time, Shelden Adelson, owner of the Venetian said, “There’s no way this world will change. There’s no way people are going to stop what they like. It’s like the old song — how you going to keep them down on the farm once they’ve been to gay Paris?”
