Social Media for Giants

If you’ve spent any time on Tradeshow Insight, you’ll be less than surprised to learn that I am a personal advocate for the adoption of Social Media, not as a “technique”, but as a standard for corporate communication and marketing. Much like the first time I saw a URL scattered on a television commercial, I was intrigued by Best Buy’s Twitter TWELPFORCE ad, which scratches the surface behind the nations largest electronic distributor and their commitment towards a corporate overhaul in social communication.

Best Buy was able to recognize their biggest asset towards Social Media success: Their employees. After all, with hundreds of national chains and thousands of young minds, in tune with technology, who better? CEO Brad Anderson illustrates the creative strategies and freedoms developed and highlights four main guidelines for its successes.

  1. Practice humility
  2. Learn from challenge & change
  3. Unleash the power of your people
  4. Have fun while being the best

In keeping with their commitment to their employees responsibilities to maintain a consistency in Social Media, a recent job posting for a Senior Media Manager at Best Buy required all applicants to have at least 250 Twitter followers. Despite varying opinions, it will be interesting to see if this groundbreaking venture will be emulated by corporations in the future.

How does your company, large or small, involve other individuals to play a role in your Social Media strategy?

  1. LOVE this post. As a social media research nerd and face-to-face/experiential marketing strategist myself- I agree 110% percent. Fantastic site you have built… I look forward to signing up for the RSS feed.
