Foursquare + Philanthropy = CauseWorld

A friend of mine @BrandonEstrada recently turned me on to a new iPhone app, called CauseWorld. The concept and actions are nearly identical to FourSquare: You earn badges and points as you check in to various locations, only your points (called “karmas”) can actually be used as a form of currency to donate items in the real world. Plant a tree, support a classroom, give clean water or caring for an injured animal are just a few of the many causes supported by CauseWorld. These donations are made possible by corporations and sponsors who have a creative incentive to give to charity.

Among the many causes you can support:

  • American Humane
  • Global Giving
  • Prevent Child Abuse America
  • Room to Read
  • Feeding America
  • DonorsChoose
  • American Forests
  • The Jane Goodall Institute
  • Carbonfund.org
  • CHF International

Right now, CauseWorld has added the American Red Cross as a list of causes to help in providing aid and disaster relief to Haiti. As an added bonus, CauseWorld is doubling all karmas.

CauseWorld is available in the iTunes app store and is also available for Android.
