SixthSense Technology for Tradeshows

News Flash: I’m a nerd. Most of you already know this, but it only takes a set of strategically placed LED lights or a carefully crafted chip board to set off my drool mechanism. So it should be no surprise that I completely ate up this video that was sent to me via @maxwifievents yesterday showcasing a number of demos by Pranav Mistry, creator of this SixthSense device. It’s a video under 14 minutes, but trust me, well worth your time if you appreciate being “Wowed.”

(Please pick up your jaw) Despite this technology likely being at least a decade away, I can’t help but think of the ways SixthSense technology could be used in the tradeshow & events industry.

  • Exhibitor Demos – Having a guide or presenter in your booth is always a good strategy to connect audience and brand, but adopting SixthSense opens a variety of mobile options that could coincide with a booth tour or a representative breaking outside of exhibit boundaries and interacting with attendees at various locations.
  • Real-Time Show Connection - Dedicated show kiosks could allow SixthSense users, exhibitors and attendees alike, to access real-time information on demand: Floor plans, conference schedules, special events. Even further, a connection to local travel information, Flight status, hotel check in/out, restaurants are just another way to bring your digital and physical words together.
  • Attendee Customization -  Mistry’s video illustrated to possibilities of profiling, storing and displaying information about individuals we interact with. A SixthSense display within an exhibit could tag your badge and provide information and data customized specifically for you. Your integrated name and company data are basic information that scratch the surface of an exhibit or product display that interacts and knows you.
  • Digital Tangibles - Instead of an attendee being inundated with brochures and catalogs, and simple stop at an exhibit could provide digital interaction with such information. This data could even be taken with them as they leave.

Those of you familiar with the movie Minority Report can probably draw many parallels from this technology and after these demos, realize it may not be as far away as we once thought. What other ways could you see SixthSense being adopted by tradeshows and events, and further, in our everyday lives?
