From One Trade Show Dad to Another, Tips For Reconnecting at Home
By the time I’ve finished this blog I will have finally spent two consecutive nights in my own bed, which is something that anybody in this crazy business would agree is one of the best feelings you can have after being on the road for consecutive events. The only thing that beats it is being with my family. But it’s not always easy to reconnect after having spent so much time in a trade show environment where tensions are known to run high and the language is typically rated NC-17 and not the kid-friendly PG-13 normally spoken at home. The last thing you need to do treat your kids like they’ve misplaced your freight Instead try some of these things instead:
- Take your wife out to a nice dinner — no matter how difficult your event has been, it still doesn’t compare to the daily mess your wife is dealing with at home. Plus, I can guarantee you’ve eaten better than she has these past few days.
- Read to your kids every chance you get — it shows them that you’re willing to step away from the laptop for more than 30 minutes and do something they love.
- Get outside with the family — go for a run. Ride bikes. Or head to the park. Not only is good for you after being cooped inside of a dusty convention center but it’s an investment small investment that reaps great return on your family’s health.
OK guys, none of this is news to you but should serve as a simple reminder to always refocus on what’s truly important, your family. Here is a link to a list of Technorati’s most authoritative blogs covering the subject of all things dad and related.

From one Dad to another…..excellent post! It is the simple reminders that often hold the greatest weight. They are the simple truths that lead to a happy life.
With Elite Meetings I travel frequently and after a long stretch of travel I also work to ensure I can help in some sort of family chore like making dinner. It helps to re-engage with my daughter and let my wife know she is appreciated.
Thanks again!
